YOUNG VOICES
Giving Young People a Voice in the Community

Young Voices is BCR's new initiative to encourage young people from Sheffield to get involved in broadcasting. As well as our BCR training programs we are encouraging active participation through youth clubs, schools and other organisations. We want young people to tell us what matters to them and what we should be broadcasting. Then we want young people to make it happen!

We can help young people develop their ideas for radio, learn the technological skills to deliver these ideas AND motivate them to continue using BCR to create innovative community radio.

STAMP (part of the YMCA's right here project)
Currently we are working with STAMP (Support, Think, Act, Motivate, Participate), a young people's group that deals with young people's mental health issues. Together we have been creating adverts to be broadcast on air and also to be used as promotional material for the STAMP group.

Activities: writing adverts and jingles for radio - developing radio programs for young people - recording radio shows.

Longley Park Sixth Form College

BCR are starting a long-term partnership with Longley Sixth Form College after several informal visits from our staff. The Youth Team took part in diversity week and recorded many of the students using our portable studio equipment. We even managed to record an impromptu Samba concert!

We had an amazing response from the young people at Longley and hope we'll see them more often.

Longley media department has now teamed up with BCR to help voice our adverts. Over the next few weeks we'll be hearing the voices of students from Longley being broadcast accross Sheffield!

What Next?:

We are keen to work with other schools to get young people involved in the station. We can visit your school to introduce radio and encourage young people to make their own programs using our equipment.
